Johnnie Mercers Pier
About Johnnie Mercers Fishing Pier
Located in Wrightsville Beach, North Carolina, it is one of the area’s most beloved oceanfront landmarks. Originally built in the 1930s as a wooden structure known as Atlantic View Pier, it was purchased and renamed by local fisherman Johnnie Mercer, who ran it for many years and gave the pier its lasting name.
The original wooden pier survived for decades but was heavily damaged by Hurricanes Bertha and Fran in 1996. It was rebuilt as a reinforced concrete pier. The first of its kind in North Carolina. The modern structure extends over 1,200 feet into the Atlantic Ocean and was designed to better withstand severe coastal weather.
Today Johnnie Mercer’s Pier remains a favorite destination for anglers, sightseers, and photographers alike, offering excellent fishing, panoramic ocean views, and a classic Wrightsville Beach experience.
